Danube Transnational Programme DAREFFORT
Collaboration to improve flood forecasts
DAREFFORT project scope
The reliable and comprehensive hydrologic data is the basis of sound forecasting in any country of the Danube Basin. Furthermore one of the most important factors of flood risk mitigation is the available time for necessary measures. Increasing the operative preparation period greatly contributes to decreasing and/or avoiding disasters.
DAREFFORT project is a horizontal initiative to implement a mutually adopted flood risk mitigation measure in a joint and sustainable way on Danube catchment level. During the three-year-implementation-period the purpose is to establish a standardized international hydro-meteorological data exchange platform which can improve the quality and efficiency of national forecast services. This would feed a public near real time system - DanubeHIS by ICPDR - that provides data for flood risk management or for any water related scientific activities.

Results & Outputs
The partners jointly work out the policy recommendations to be submitted to ICPDR (International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River) in the interest of the establishment of the Danube Hydrological Information System (DanubeHIS) which is a fundamental step towards flexible and sustainable data exchange. The main focus is to enhance the access to the recorded hydrologic and ice data and to provide harmonized distribution for all the countries in the Danube catchment.
